December 12th

Good Morning everyone. I was sitting at my computer thinking about today’s blog and this song came to mind.

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see?
‘Way up in the sky, little lamb
Do you see what I see?

A star, a star
Dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

We had a chance to see, believe, and accept but we chose not to.

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing thru the sky, shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear?

A song, a song
High above the tree
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king
Do you know what I know?

Not being embarrassed to tell what was there but accepting him.

A Child, a Child
Shivers in the cold
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Let us bring Him silver and gold

Why is it that throughout time we have always as mankind jumped to the idea of riches and wealth instead of practicality. A shivering child needs a blanket for warmth, food for comfort, and love for security. Why would anyone think of silver and gold. We would expect the innocence of a child to think of something bright and wonderful but where were the words of wisdom?

Said the king to the people ev’rywhere
Listen to what I say!
Pray for peace, people ev’rywhere
Listen to what I say!

When the king announced words of wisdom ears turned deaf to him. People were more consumed with their greed and personal needs. Short visioned they did not see what this could mean for not only their generation but for their children and children’s children and for many generations to come. Obviously no one listen because the world has never been at peace.  The king feared what was to come. He feared the coming of a new king.

The Child, the Child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light.

Heratics choose to look for the evil, instead of pray for the good. He was different and people fear what is different. Instead of accepting love, friendship and goodness it was much easier to ridicule, belittle and even bully. Yes, the Christ child was bullied.  He had rocks thrown at him, he had abusive words said to him, he was disowned by people and betrayed by those he loved.

Yet we are allowed to celebrate this child’s birthday with joy and jubulance.

How is it that we as a society can go one minute from thinking of riches, wealth, and greed. Ridicule, hatred, and disbelief to love, mercy and kindness?

This child did bring us goodness and light. However, we chose to throw it away and turn off the light. We have spent generations walking around in the dark blaming everyone for our misfortune.

Yet all we had to do was to light the light shine, let the love come out and believe in goodness, and mercy.

We talk about bullying in the schools and how it needs to be changed. Wake up adults. These children are only doing what has been done for centuries. They are living what they have learned from their parents and other adults. You see it on television, you see it on the job, you see it in the communities. You cannot go anywhere without seeing bullying. It has been a life long tradition. How do you think labeling started?

When I went to school it was “Four eyes” for children who wore classes. Then it was the fat kid, or the dumb kid . When I was divorced it was “Oh she’s the divorcee’ don’t let your kids play with hers. When I taught special education the list of names is to long to list here. The most common being “the Retards,” and yet some of my students were the most brilliant in the school they just need to learn in a different manner.

Why did mankind decide that wealth and riches were more important that a warm blanket, food, clothing, shelter, and love in one’s heart.

Last night on television was Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. This story is not about Chocolate. It’s about the very topic I am talking about today.

Look what happened in the Chocolate Factory to those who were greedy, hateful, and ignorant. But what happened when one little boy kept the purity of love in his heart, when family was more important than money, when he couldn’t be bought?

It is time for us in our lives to put our houses in order and have correct priorities back. Why do people spend $600.00 on play stations, and other such games.

You could clothe, feed and care for your family for a month on that. You could save that kind of money and take a vacation and build life lone memories. You could donate to starving children around the world.

My goodness sakes no wonder we are in such a mess int his world.

Jesus came into this world to spread his word of love and kindness. He came to teach us how we could be saved from all our sins and transgressions. Yet we choose to ignore his teachings. We choose to be selfish, greedy, mongrels like animals in the wild.  We choose to ridicule and point fingers at others.

What in the world has happened to us? Where has all of the love that we once knew gone? Where has the innocence of heart and the intelligence of common sense gone?
I am asking everyone this year to change their priorities and make Christmas a celebration of love and joy.

Open your hearts, close your pocket books and return to the true meaning of Christmas.

Take time to visit a church. Take time to truly listen to the Christmas Story.

Take time to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Dear Lord I pray that our society will find their way back to the fold. Like lost sheep they have wondered away from their Shepard. Please hear my prayer and help them find their way.  Send them a guiding light, an angel to harken to them a beacon of love and a feeling of kindness. Let them find what it is they have lost on their way and let this world become a kinder more grateful world to live in. Let the hungry be fed, the cold be warmed, and the sick be healed. Let the homeless have shelter and the jobless be given work, the the elderly be appreciated for their wisdom and experience. But most of all let the ridicule and bullying disappear and let only kind words, kind thoughts, and kind gestures return to our society. Let us find peace on earth. In Christ’s name . Amen

So as I leave you with this blog today. I wish for you to go out and find peace today. I will be back tomorrow please join me.
