New Years Preparation

With New Years resolutions and putting away off the holiday season we are also faced with tax season so where do we begin with all of this?

It is a good time now to CLEAN HOUSE!

WHERE TO BEGIN !!!!!!

1. GET RID OF UNNECESSARY BAGGAGE

That means people who are holding you back, that means debts you don’t need, that means clutter in the home, office, etc.

This is the perfect time to go through old bills, eliminate, dump those negative people who don’t want you to succeed, and tell them to move on. It is time to organize your house, your job, and your tax papers so that you can move forward.

2. FIRST PUT AWAY HOLIDAY DECORATIONS AND ORGANIZE THEM FOR NEXT YEAR

3. NEXT GET A FILING SYSTEM FOR PAPER WORK AND ELIMINATE OLD PAPERS YOU DON’T NEED!!!

Remember it is better to shred anything with personal information on it as there are those you go through garbage to access your identity.

Keep in mind that if you are applying for anything like a home loan, medicare/medicaid etc. you need bank records for three years. Remember taxes can go back seven years.

4. START IMMEDIATELY DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!!!

The sooner you organize yourself the sooner you can file taxes, move on with your New Years Resolution goals and make important changes in your life.

5. CHANGING YOUR ATTITUDE FREQUENTLY MEANS CHANGING FRIENDS, AND EVEN CONTACT WITH FAMILY MEMBERS

If you have someone in your life that is holding you back or is negative all the time. Be honest tell them the problem and let them know you are moving on. They won’t like it but you need to do what is right for you. Be responsible in your actions, don’t be cruel but be fair to both yourself and them.

You can’t carry excess baggage around and change your life.

6. SET A PLAN OF ACTION

Make sure you have one goal a day that you can accomplish. It doesn’t matter how small it is. It does matter if you can say I did it!!!!

7. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING HAS A PLACE!!!

If you can’t find a place for something than chances are you don’t need it so get rid of it. Have your home organized. Run your home like you would a business.

8. PRIORITIZE YOUR LIFE

Make a list of what is the most important things in your life and put them in order. Don’t let anything interfere with that.

Most people go Religion, Family, Work, Friends, ETC>

9. INCLUDE YOUR PETS

Remember there lives are affected by what you do.

They need to have exercise so plan a time for them.

Schedule their eating habits and sleeping habits to coincide with your lifestyle.

10.  BE POSITIVE

Make a reminder of at least three positive things you will do every day. Put it where you can read it frequently such as the mirror, refrigerator, car etc.

Then at the end of the day self evaluate how you did. Was I more positive at work? Did I say please and thank you? Did I smile at customers? How did I treat the clerk at the store?

11. TIMELINES

Be on time. Get in the habit of paying your bills as soon as you get your check. Don’t put it off until tomorrow.

Be on time mailing those important bills and letters.

Be on time to work.

Be on time getting up in the morning and going to bed.

Be on time going to visit a friend.

Break the late habit.

Be on time making your goals.

12. BREAK THE EXCUSE HABIT

“Excuses only satisfy the user” unknown author

No one cares what excuse you have they only care about the outcome. Do what you know is right. Do it on time and be successful.

If you think you are covering your tracks you are only lying to yourself. Others around you see and know you well enough to know what is real.

13. Be the Best you can be!

IF you know you have done your best that is what matters.

It doesn’t matter if it’s cooking, cleaning the house, going to work, or being a friend. If you always put your best foot forward and try your very best than you can be proud of what you have done.

14. Don’t Compete

Who cares what Joe Blow down the street is doing? You aren’t living that life. Don’t try competing to have the biggest and best house, car or job. You will fail miserably.

Like your own life. Be happy and live it the best you know how to do.

15. Be Helpful

You sow what you reap in life. Give a helping hand to a family member, a neighbor or a friend. That doesn’t mean you let them use you. However, a good friend knows when to listen and when to speak up and say “No!” That applies to everyone.

However, it never hurts to shovel someones walk, mow their lawn, or just help them carry groceries in the house.

Do it because it makes you feel good to be able to help someone not because you expect something in return.

16. SMILE

It takes less muscles to smile than it does to frown and people will like you better.

But don’t always try to be the office clown or the family clown it gets old after a while.

17. Judge your own Home before you Judge Someone Else’s

There is a saying “Clean up your own house first!” In other words people who live in Glass Houses shouldn’t through rocks!”

No one has a right to judge another. You only have the right to judge yourself and what you do with your life.

My father use to say “Never judge a person until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes!” I agree but my shoes are hard enough to walk in so I’ll leave the judgement to a higher power.

18. Remember we all make mistakes.

Forgive, don’t forget, but learn from it and move on.

19. “It is What it is”

You can cry over spilled milk but that won’t clean it up. Let the past go and move on. That includes broken relationships, jobs, etc. It does no good to worry about the things you can’t change.

20. Worry about what you can change

Let the rest go and be productive.  You will find more peace and happiness when you stop worrying over what you can’t control.

You can’t control other people and their actions, you can only control yours.

Take time to ponder this.

FINALLY!!!!!
Time time for peaceful relaxation, listen to music, go dancing, take a walk, exercise, and just do something fun that you like to do. Make sure you have at least an hour a day of alone time to clear your head and be at peace with yourself.

All of these tidbits I have found useful to me over the years and they have helped me through many stressful times. I hope that they will help someone else.

Until next time 🙂
