This is a book of poetry written in honor of not only the horses that have made this country great by the people who endured their pioneer adventures moving across the land from the east to the west. It is in honor of the building of a country and the freedom that all wild horses represent to us.

In what might be the least divisive holiday ever, today is National Puppy Day.

Founded in 2006 by author and animal behaviorist, Colleen Paige, National Puppy Day celebrates the unconditional love and magical joy puppies bring into our lives. Most importantly, though, National Puppy Day is a day to save the lives of homeless puppies everywhere by educating the public about the horrors of puppy mills, and working to realize the goal of  eliminating pet stores that sell puppies.

This holiday, as well as National Dog Day and National Cat Day (also founded by Paige) help comprise her Animal Miracle Foundation and Network (AMF), an all-volunteer non-profit organization that works to educate the public about wildlife conservation, animal cruelty, homeless pets, and pet overpopulation. To this end, AMF hosts many trade shows and festivals throughout the year, bringing local shelter pets and promoting adoption efforts.

This day honors those dogs that are often overlooked at the shelters. Remember that Pet stores often get their animals from Puppy mills, misbreed animals and you don’t want to shop on Craig’s list. Go into an animal shelter look around find that partner that fits with you. I have had the most wonderful luck saving a dog from the animal shelter. You don’t always need a puppy for many people and their busy life an adult animal that is already house broke and partially trained can have its benefits.

I also suggest that if you are an animal person get involve volunteering, foster care pets, and help out. There is always a need to give these wonderful animals the love they want and deserve.

Enjoy today with loving a pet. I have cats so I will share my day with them and they are both rescue animals.

Make today about LOVING PETS! And finding homes for those who don’t have one. Remember to get your pets cared for by your veterinarian .

National Chip and Dip day

Although there is no research as to why this is called a national day many people blog about it. For many ideas on it check out the posted link.

For me I think any day is a great day for Chips and Dips although you have to be careful of the salt intake if you have blood pressure problems like I do.

My favorite dips are the traditional Onion Dips with Onion Soup, A clam Dip, a Garden Vegetable Dip and of course my mom’s recipe for Chili Dip. Yummm.

There are hundreds of types of dips and you can share a variety along with a variety of chips.

Just don’t share with your pets today because once you start that habit it’s hard to break.

Well the weather is starting to improve and I definitely hope that is a sign of spring finally arriving. I am tired of hearing about avalanches and snow on the way after not having snow all winter.

Today someone in the neighborhood was out mowing the lawn so that is a good sign.

It started out sunning this morning and then became grey and overcast. Now it is not grey but still overcast. I am looking for some real sunshine and so are the cats. They keep looking out the window to see where it is at.

It is so unfair to tease house cats with a couple of warm days with windows open and then go back to winter. They don’t like it at all.

I will be glad when they can have a window open to sit in all summer long and enjoy fresh air.

Well I hope that everyone will enjoy the day. Think about my book coming out share the information with your friends, enjoy a pet and I will see you tomorrow.

Until next time 🙂
