August 25th

Well another beautiful day. I am going to appreciate everyday that I awake and the sun is shining. The nights are much cooler and I know what that means. My sadness well enter when the sun hides behind a shroud of grey sky as that will take my energy away and I will want to hibernate with the bears.

Well it is Saturday and I do hope that everyone is able to enjoy their weekend. If you plan on going camping for those last summer trips please make sure and check before leaving for your favorite campground as many have been closed due to forest fires.

In our area not only are many campgrounds closed but even the areas for boating are closed because the fire fighters are using all the water reservoirs  for their air water drops.

Unfortunately that does affect many planning those last summer camping and vacation trips. You can call your local forest district office or check online to see what areas are closed.

Two important things to think about in regards to the natural habitat that has been affected by forest fires:

1) animals have been displaced from their homes. Some like deer, mountain coats, etc will go to higher ground to find safety. However, smaller animals and animals that have trouble finding food will go to lower ground and move into city areas so it is important to be aware of your surroundings at all times especially should you choose to go camping.

animals will feel threatened after being displaced from their natural habitat and will have a tendency to be more aggressive out of fear.

2) Hunting may not be the same this year as in past years. If you are a hunter you need to check and see if your favorite place has been destroyed. They are accepting hunting licenses back with full refunds as long as you turn them in before opening day of the season.

No matter what you do remember to have safety in place for your family or travel companions at all times.  This has been an unusual season with many unforeseen natural disasters. Be prepared. 🙂

Well let’s take a look at the national days and what’s happening.

National Days:

25 Kiss and Make Up Day

History

The world is full of little worries, seemingly insignificant irritations that over time can amount to their negative expression on the people closest to you. The things that you do on a daily basis not only add to your multidimensional attributes thereby developing your character and individuality, but also tend to become important aspects of your relationships. And while the tests and tribulations of friendships, family ties, romantic relationships, and life partnerships are all a part of the life cycle, it is often easy to overlook the little annoyances, idiosyncrasies, and character differences that keep people continually distant from one another. Letting your irritation rub off unnecessarily on the people around you means risking the creation of long-standing rifts that are difficult to mend. Take a preemptive step in maintaining your relationships by commemorating Kiss-and-Make-Up Day, the basis for which is that keeping one’s relationships in constant repair is the way to keep them strong!

Tradition
Had a fight with a friend, a tiff with your spouse, or a disagreement with your family? Particularly if it is over something fairly petty, don’t let it cloud your mind, instead approach whoever the other party is and work it out. Talk to the people closest to you about how you can be more supportive, less imposing, or develop any number of behaviors and responses that will ultimately strengthen your relationship with them and maintain your connection. Spend more of your time and energy appreciating the special qualities of your loved ones rather than dwelling on changing them as people or wishing for a relationship that doesn’t or can’t exist. Use Kiss-and-Make-Up Day to do just that: reach out to the people you’ve been bickering with and let them know how much they mean to you. Asking for forgiveness, or receiving it is hardly important, but knowing that an argument can’t ruin a relationship should you choose to upkeep it, is priceless.

August 25, 2012 is

National Banana Split Day

Today is National Banana Split Day! This decadent dessert has been around since the early 1900s and is the perfect treat to enjoy on a warm summer night.

The split is a variation of the traditional ice cream sundae and is usually served in a special dish called a banana boat. It’s easy to make, but you’ll need quite a few ingredients! First, split a banana and place a slice on either side of your boat. Then add three scoops of ice cream in between—one of chocolate, one of vanilla, and one of strawberry. Generously top the chocolate scoop with hot fudge, the vanilla with candied pineapple, and the strawberry with strawberry sauce. Next, swirl whipped cream over each scoop. Finish it off with a sprinkle of crushed nuts and a few maraschino cherries. Yum!

To celebrate National Banana Split Day, set up a make-your-own banana split buffet and invite your friends over for an impromptu ice cream social! Enjoy! 🙂

What better way to improve a relationship with anyone than to get a big banana split and share it.

Today is a day to show that person in your life how much you care whether it is a romantic relationship, a parent child, a spouse, a sibling, or a friend. Go out enjoy the beauty of today put the past behind you and celebrate the beauty of being able to enjoy the day together.

So until next time eat, drink and be healthy 🙂
