Thanks to Our Soldiers

Thanks to Our Soldiers

By Janice N. Richards

How do you thank someone who gives their life?

How do you thank someone who’s willing to fight?

How do you thank one who sleeps in the mud?

How do you thank someone who shoots guns?

How do you thank one when meals taste bad?

How do you thank one when no sleep they’ve had?

How do you thank one who’s far away from home?

How do you thank one who’s gone to war alone?

How do you thank one for our Liberty?

How do you thank one for protecting you and me?

I will thank you by saluting the red, white, and blue.

I will thank you by praying each day for you.

I will thank you by being proud of what you do.

I will thank you by fighting for freedom too.

I will thank you by remembering each soldier’s fear.

I will thank you by sharing happiness and tears.

I will thank you by praying for each day of safety.

I will thank you by supporting your family.

I will thank you by remembering you each day.

I will thank you when you come back my way.

Today I wish to thank each military soldier,

Mother, sisters, cousins, fathers, and brothers.

There is no way one can repay you,

For the horrible things you’re exposed to.

All that we can give back to each one of you,

Is our Loyalty, love and respect to see you through

So as I say a prayer for man, war, and liberty,

I will ask the lord to guide and protect thee.

Lord walk with each soldier everyday,

Protect them from harm in every way.

Keep them from a life of harm,

Sending them home to families arms.

If they should be called to fight,

Let them know that it’s alright.

At the closing of each day,

Comfort them the best you may.

When it’s time to come home,

Let their names be proudly known.

Amen
